Why Gopher in 2026?

Entry 001 - Why gopher in 2026? May 22nd 2026 First off, if you're study this, you're likely the benevolent of individual who can't just use a tool, you have to cognize how it works. There are astute group who are good at what they do. Some group are expert chefs, notable mechanics, great sculptors or skillful accountants. But how many of those group dive so deep into what they are fine at to comprehend what makes it tick? People akin us are the ones who build a phlog for fun fair to get a emotion for how far we've arrive alongside technology. Maybe you're current for the nostalgia, maybe it's to rotate off the noise of contemporary tech. The crucial part is you are here now, in 2026 or beyond. I'm noticing a trend alongside my 17 twelvemonth old and their allies alongside ADHD anywhere they want to rotate off the noise of the earth and go rear to simpler times. As one who is from those simpler times, I'm a small arrogant but additionally a small "Get off my lawn!" It's unattainable to go rear to that at this item and for improved or worse, we have to create awareness of anywhere we are. Flip phones are uncomplicated and low- tech to them, but for us they were the latest in tech! We have syntax highlighting in vim that wasn't there whenever I was using vi so many years ago. Now I not lone cognize it's there, but I can google how to set up so many features that I didn't cognize existed and would never fig out from the manual. Back in the day you had to discover person who archetypal off knew what you were equal talking concerning and second who knew additional than you did. For me, this was how I ended up knowing a small concerning a lot but not being capable to wrestle the arcane cognition from the man pages. I think tech is in a weird location that is the two excellent helpful and yet so unhelpful at the identical time. Subscriptions for everything, services changing all the period and profits driving the direction of everything. It's nice to find a location akin sdf that operates akin how things used to. Thanks for stopping by! Im not certain anywhere that leaves us. All I cognize is that I (myself) need to dilatory down. - y4my4m
