Play it exactly as it looked in 1994, or remastered in HD alongside new effects, modes and tools. One key, F2, switches between the two at any moment, equal mid-fight.

01 · Play

Download the game, free, for your computer. Nothing to install: all download is the entire equivalent in one file (on a Mac, an app in a zip), prepared to run from anywhere.

OMF Studio, the mod tools, is the identical program beginning direct into Studio (the equivalent opens it too, from Extras). Everything is included: the game, its HD artwork and its music, concerning 240 MB. The release notes catalog what's new.

The archetypal commencement on Windows, macOS and Linux
  • Windows may say it protected your PC: the records aren't signed yet. Choose More info, afterward Run anyway. The game runs on Microsoft's WebView2, which Windows 10 and 11 have. Windows XP, 7, 8 and 8.1 can't run it: WebView2 left them rearward in 2023, and XP never had it.
  • macOS: unzip the app and move it to Applications. It isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the archetypal period macOS won't open it: go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, once. For LAN games, let it find devices on your local network whenever it asks.
  • Linux: let the AppImage run as a program (in its file's properties, or chmod +x in a terminal), afterward commencement it. Some distributions need FUSE 2 for AppImages (the libfuse2 package), and the Noto fonts for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Bengali and Arabic.

Or play it online, alongside nothing to install: it runs in any contemporary browser, on a computer, a tablet or a phone, and keeps operating offline formerly it has loaded.

On the archetypal start, one display sets you up: the first 1994 appearance in a sole press, or the remastered graphics, effects, announcer and music the way you akin them. Everything can be changed afterward in Options.

Games used to arrive alongside a booklet, so this one does too. The 32-page manual has the story, the controls, how to fight, all robot's moves, the pilots, the arenas and tips from the pros, alongside a one-page quick commencement on leaf 2.

02 · Classic / Remastered

The identical example in the traditional and the remastered look, a divider sweeping between them
The identical moment, the two ways. F2 switches at any time.

Classic Remastered
  • The first VGA picture, rebuilt on the GPU: 320 × 200 pixels through the game's palette and its 19 color tables, exactly akin 1994
  • Sharp pixels, gentle scaling or a CRT filter
  • Widescreen fights if you desire them
  • HD artwork for all arena, robot, picture and effect, and an edge-aware upscaler for item else
  • Player colors, fades and flashes motionless work: they are mapped onto the HD pixels live
  • Widescreen arenas whose paintings have depth: the camera's moves provision them parallax, and ray falls on them by their shape
  • Smooth motion between equivalent ticks, bloom, a keen HUD, and content in a keen typeface fitted to the first fonts

03 · The entire 1994 game

Everything from the first is here, playing its own data files:

  • 11 robots, all move, particular and throw, and 10 pilots affirmative Major Kreissack, all fighting their own way.
  • 5 arenas and their hazards: the Danger Room's spikes, the Power Plant's electrified fences, the Fire Pit's fireballs and the Desert's strafing jets.
  • Fire and Ice, the one-player game's two concealed opponents, as the 1994 program hides them: on Champion or harder, a demolition in the Fire Pit and afterward the robot's Fire & Ice move dispatch it through the flat to combat Fire, an enhanced Katana in the burning pit below, and on Ultimate on to Ice, a translucent Shadow in the icy one.
  • Every mode: one and two players, the demo, the complete tournament occupation alongside the mech lab, upgrades, training and the newsroom, the scoreboard, the intro and all ending.
  • The first music and sounds, through a harbor of the game's own music driver.

The menus were tidied up without losing anything: the three ways to perform archetypal (the two participant equivalent is now Multiplayer, alongside LAN games beside it), afterward More modes, Extras and Options. And a few things the 1994 menus promised now work, akin the defensive throws, knock down and block damage rules.

04 · Fight effects

Remastered fights get a tier of contemporary effects, driven by what happens in the fight:

Effects What they add
Particles Sparks and flares on hits and blocks, powder from falls, throws and partition slams
Lighting Hits, fire, energy and projectiles ray up the arena and the robots
Impact Shockwaves on dense hits, the knockout camera
Atmosphere Each arena's own: embers, sand, dust, floodlights, camera flashes in the crowd, and in the new arenas snow, aurora, rain, lightning, neon and bubbles

Note

The effects are lone for the eyes. They never contact the game's province or its random numbers, so a combat plays out exactly the identical alongside them on or off (a test checks it). Each collection can be turned off in Options › Graphics › Effects.

05 · New ways to play

All of this is new, and none of it changes how the first plays unless you use it.

Multiplayer on your network

Multiplayer in the chief list is the first two participant game, and more:

  • Local: two players on one computer, sharing the keyboard or alongside controllers, as in 1994.
  • LAN: combat a companion on another device of your residence network, in the desktop app on Windows, macOS or Linux (a browser can't attain another computers by itself, so the web type doesn't recommendation it). One of you hosts a game, the another picks it from the games established on the network (or types the host's address), and it starts by itself: the two screens say who plays whom and on which side, afterward you encounter at the robot choose screen. You the two choice a aviator and a robot, the presenter picks the arena, and the combat starts formerly you've the two pressed punch. A bar at the base of the display continually says whose move it is, and YOU and READY display complete the players' portraits.
  • Online: coming soon.

Both computers perform the extremely identical fight, all operating the equivalent itself, tick for tick: they lone inform all another what their participant pressed (the identical determinism that makes replays work). The host's gameplay options are used (speed, rounds, power and the advanced rules), the two games must be the identical type alongside the identical mods on (on any of the three systems), and they keep checking that their fights agree. The archetypal period you host, Windows may ask whether the game can use the network: authorize it on personal networks. A Mac asks whether it may discover devices on your local network: allow it. On Linux alongside a firewall on, open harbor 2097 (TCP and UDP). LAN fights are saved as replays akin any other.

The equivalent speaks English, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Bengali, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Russian, Danish and Swedish: the first game's texts (its menus, assistance pages, the news reports, the pilots' trash talk, the endings) and everything the remaster adds. It starts in your language: your browser's on the web, your system's in the app. Options › Language lists them all, all written in itself, and switches at once; your choice stays. English and German are the game's own 1994 texts, umlauts and all. The another languages are new translations, drawn in the first pixel font anywhere its alphabet attain (Ã, Ê, Ø... are made in its style) and in your system's fonts for Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Devanagari, Bengali and Arabic (right to left), keen in the two looks.

a combo on the dummy alongside the example data and the input display

Training (in More modes) puts you against a dummy that never goes down, alongside health that refills following every combo. The intermission menu's Training lab brings the tools of contemporary fighting games:

  • Frame data for the two robots (startup, active, recovery, advantage) and hitboxes: hits in this equivalent are pixel exact, and you can see why.
  • Record the dummy and let it perform your record back, or answer the instant it can act (a reversal) with any of its moves.
  • Combo trials for all robot, all alongside a demo. The combos were established by searching the equivalent itself and checked against all eleven robots.

The example meter and the example data complete a fight, the hit points and outlines shown its moves in a row, the landed ones in green

Every combat is saved (Extras › Replays keeps the final 40, and any you mark). Watch them at any speed, step frame by frame, jump anywhere, and preserve a clip as an MP4 video or an animated GIF. Replays are shared as the original game's own .rec files.

the playback bar alongside its timeline and a marked clip

Arcade, endurance and period attack

  • Arcade: eight fights against improved and improved pilots, Kreissack last.
  • Survival: one circular following another, alongside lone the health you have left.
  • Time attack: five fights against the clock.
  • Records: your statistics, the finest results of all mode, and 20 achievements to display off (nothing is locked behind them).

a robot's frame, caput and moves changing in its live picture

Build your own robot from the parts of the remaster's new robots: one's frame, another's head, a third one's special moves, a size, a importance category and three colors. The equivalent turns it into a complete combatant on the spot, all sprite, move and HD picture, prepared for training or a fight. Robots are shared as small .omfbot files.

Make a tournament of your own from the installed ones: small opponents, their robots as they were or the new ones, more or small award money. It shows up in Tournament play akin the others, and is shared as a .omftrn file.

  • A painted chief menu: the robot on its phase in layers of painted parallax, under a spotlight, searchlights and camera flashes, the perspective leaning toward your mouse.
  • Two announcers, Victor and Kristen, call the rounds, the knockouts and the winners, and following a combat a newsreader says the TV study aloud, names and all.
  • Victory screens: the winner, a row of theirs, and the combat in numbers.
  • A combat camera (if you desire it) that comes in near whenever the robots do.

And the credits are clashed out. Scored to Twenty Ninety-Seven (Remix) by Hadal Static, a opus concerning One Must Fall 2097: the 1994 logo is struck by lightning on the drop, then, on the monitor of an old PC dressed in the game's colors, all credit pilots a robot in its own colors against item the remaster had to attack (tech debt, spaghetti code, pixel noise, deceased air) and wins, all final attack landing on the beat and all winner's cardstock flying onto the tower (Play the credits on the chief menu, or Extras › Credits).

And more
  • Move lists in the intermission menu: all particular move, throw and finishing move of the two robots.
  • F1 assistance at any time, alongside the equivalent paused rearward it.
  • Your own music: autumn songs onto the window, and they perform in fights or everywhere.
  • Arena acoustics (sounds echo akin the stadium or the alloy Danger Room) and an impact bass under dense hits.
  • Achievements province themselves the instant they're earned.
  • Auto pause whenever you toggle to another window.

06 · New robots and arenas

Four robots and four arenas were made for the remaster, in the soul of the originals. They are not part of the 1994 game, which stays as it was: they arrive alongside it as a mod, off until you rotate on New robots and arenas in Extras › Mods (or on the archetypal start's setup screen).

GLACIER against TEMPEST, HELIX against SPECTRE

Robot Style Special moves
GLACIER A dense ice juggernaut: slow, strong, tough Ice Lance ↓↘︎→ P, Glacial Ram ↓↙︎← K, Frost Spikes ↓↘︎→ K
TEMPEST A light, accelerated breeze robot alongside high, floating jumps Gale Blast ↓↙︎← P, Cyclone Kick ↓↘︎→ K, Sky Dive ↓ K in the air

SPECTRE A phantom alongside forearm lasers and a cloak of blades Photon Beam ↓↘︎→ P, Phase Shift ↓↙︎← K, Shadow Strike ↓↘︎→ K

They perform akin the originals: the complete set of moves, a throw, a scrap and a demolition finisher, the player's three colors, and a device that knows how to combat alongside them. With the mod on, they associate the robot choose display (a third row), the computer's opponents and the robots Plug trades in tournaments.

Orbital, Ice Cave, Rooftop and Abyss

  • Orbital: a area station's hangar alongside the Earth in its window. Dust floats in the low gravity, and now and then a shuttle passes outside.
  • Ice Cave: a icy cavern under the aurora. Snow blows in, freeze mist creeps complete the ice, shooting stars fall over the mountains.
  • Rooftop: a skyscraper's rooftop in the rain complete a neon city. Lightning flashes complete the horizon as a hover-car cruises by.
  • Abyss: a pane dome on the sea floor. Bubbles rise, ray ripples complete the floor, a submersible glides past.

Orbital, Ice Cave, Rooftop and Abyss

The robots and arenas are 3D models (src/gen), rendered into the game's own formats. The robots' HD frames are rendered in Blender from the identical models (how), and the arenas' HD backgrounds were painted complete their renders by an depiction generation model. All four arenas are true widescreen, alongside their own music, acoustics and moving scenery.

07 · Mods and OMF Studio

Mods add robots, arenas and pilots that perform exactly akin the game's own: all animation, move and hit point, in both looks, in all manner and in replays. Drop a .omfmod document onto the equivalent to instal it, and rotate it on or off in Extras › Mods.

OMF Studio makes them. It opens from Extras › OMF Studio (or download it on its own, beside the game), and it works in the game's own formats, pixel for pixel. The new robots and arenas are a mod too: open them in OMF Studio to see how all animation, move and HD image is put together.

  • Robots: commencement from a copy of any robot, the workshop's parts, or a blank figure. Draw all example in the game's palette, location the hit points, and set all move's input, damage and the victim's reaction.
  • Arenas: commencement from a copy or a picture, afterward add hazards, landscape and music.
  • Pilots: portraits, lines, a character for the device to combat with, and an ending.
  • HD artwork for the remastered look: templates to coat over, or pictures rendered from a robot's 3D model.
  • Test it in the equivalent correct from Studio: a fight, the device against itself, training or the one-player game. Then install it, or build the .omfmod document to share. Every alter can be undone.

The mod format and all publishing company are explained in docs/MODDING.md.

08 · Build it yourself

The equivalent data and the HD artwork arrive alongside the repository, so it takes a infinitesimal to get it running:

git copy https://github.com/Jared-woodruff/OMF-2097-Remastered.git cd OMF-2097-Remastered npm instal && npm run dev # afterward open http://localhost:5173
Command What you get
npm run build The web type in dist/: a fixed location that plant from any directory and offline following the archetypal visit
npm run desktop:build The desktop app for the scheme you build on: the program on Windows, the app on macOS, the AppImage on Linux
npm test The test suite: the genuine equivalent logic, run headless against the first data
npm run manual The equivalent manual, as a PDF

docs/BUILDING.md has the prerequisites, all another command (a lean web build, your own copy of the game data, the HD artwork pipeline) and how the remaster's own satisfied is made. The publish downloads for all system are built by GitHub Actions whenever a publish is published (.github/workflows/release.yml).

  • The HD artwork is matched to the game's pictures by a fingerprint of their pixels, so the game's code doesn't know it's there, and all HD pixel follows its original's palette: participant colors, fades and flashes activity as in 1994. It loads per scene, as the equivalent needs it.
  • It keeps up: the remastered renderer watches its GPU period and lowers its inner resolution whenever a GPU can't. With all consequence on, a example takes concerning 8 ms on an RTX 4080 at 1920 × 1200.
