This as-told-to composition is according to a conversation alongside Hayley and Mo Molina, 30 and 49, a wed brace who live on a 400-acre ranch in Claremore, Oklahoma. Hayley's parents bought the ranch in 2021, and now four generations of family live there. The following has been edited for dimension and clarity.

Hayley: I was delivered in Bluffton, Indiana. Then my family moved to Oklahoma whenever I was three.

We continually lived in town, and my family knew nothing concerning ranching. They were golfers; I didn't hear to nation music until I was in elevated academy — we were city people. But afterward my parents sold their home and were looking for item new, item different.

They were really looking for item smaller and alongside not as much district to obtain attention of, but we started talking concerning a family compound, established Hook Ranch, and fair jumped in headfirst.

When my parents archetypal established the property, it was concerning 170 acres, provision or take, and they fair kept purchasing additional district and expanding it bigger and bigger until it landed on what it is now.

When my parents were talking concerning doing this, the forthcoming goal was for me to be out here. For me, it wasn't the goal correct away. I wanted that in the future, but I didn't cognize what the forthcoming looked akin for me.

My grandparents ended up moving out current and living in the barn, anywhere they live now, since I wasn't preparedness on moving out there or construction anytime soon.

They were like, "OK, fine we'll fair obtain your place then."

Then Mo and I met, and honestly, I don't equal cognize if we always had the conversation concerning living out here.

Mo: We really didn't bring it up first on. And whenever we archetypal idea concerning it, I was like, "There's no way I'm living out there alongside all them family. There's no way." Not since I didn't akin them; it fair wasn't in the plan.

But then, as I got to cognize them, loved them, and we hung out alongside them nearly all weekend, we were like, "Wait a minute, we affection it out here."

I projected out here, and following that, it took off from there. And afterward it was normal.

It's not weird to be living this near to my family

Hayley: On the property, there's us, my parents, my mom's parents, and afterward my brother and sister-in-law and their two daughters.

My family's continually been so close. We're the category of group who continually hung out on the weekends. We continually went to my parents' home Friday night. It was so normal to be so near and continually together.

Mo: For me, it was fair my mom and me expanding up, and we lived in the city, but I'm a nation boy. I knew I continually wanted to be out in the country. But it looked akin I was going to be in the city the entire time. But alongside Hayley being near to her family, it all came together.

Hayley: We really moved in alongside my parents first. We sold my home in March 2025, and afterward moved in alongside my parents.

Mo: We lived there during we were construction our house.

Hayley: We got wed in September, moved in alongside my parents in March, and lived there for seven months. We moved into our home in October of 2025.

Our home is lone concerning 100 yards distant from the barn, which is anywhere my parents and grandparents live.

My brother and sister-in-law are concerning 200 yards distant from the barn — it's akin a seven-minute walk. It's exactly a one-minute stroll from my home to my parents' house.

Mo: I didn't cognize if there were going to be any benefits to living that close or not, particularly whenever my father-in-law built a trail that goes correct from the barn to our house.

It's benevolent of cliché, but if we don't have any eggs, we can exactly stroll downward there.

Hayley: But honestly, we have so much privacy. You wouldn't think that, but I can't equal see my parents' home or my brother's home from my house.

We can be in the backyard, the forefront yard, and I have no idea what's going on at their houses ever.

We can go weeks without seeing anybody. There's a lot of privacy out current since everybody respects all other's privacy.

Mo: It is weird knowing that we're this near and afterward a brace weeks go by, and I'm like, "Man, I haven't seen anybody," or "We haven't gone downward there," and they're 100 steps away.

We've built nearer relationships by living on the identical property

Mo: When we archetypal started dating, she was continually hanging out alongside her parents nearly all weekend, and I was living my sole life, and I was hanging out alongside my buddies, and we would go out nearly all weekend.

Hayley: Friday nights, we cognize what my parents are doing, since they do the identical item beautiful much all Friday night.

So if we don't have item to do, we are fair going to go associate them. Sometimes I fair desire to suspend out alongside people, but I don't desire to have to run anywhere, and I don't desire to have to get ready. So we'll have a equivalent night at the barn alongside the entire family: my grandparents, us, my parents, and my brother and his family.

Mo: Hayley used to arrive and suspend out alongside my friends, and afterward it didn't obtain extremely lengthy before I went complete to her family's location and hung out alongside them. I was like, "Man, this is benevolent of cool." They're notable to suspend out with.

At first, I was like, "I'm not hanging out alongside your parents. This is not a chill Friday night." In small than a month, I would say we were exactly hanging out all weekend alongside her parents.

Hayley: I think we all have gotten so much closer. I have learned so much concerning my grandparents and gotten nearer alongside my grandma.

My grandma comes over to our home all Monday dawn and washes our sheets for us. While the sheets are washing and drying, she cleans the floors for me, and during she's doing that, she and I chat.

That's been really nice since I get to nexus alongside her whenever. Before, I couldn't really do that since we lone saw them all formerly in a while. Now I can do that all week. And she goes to my brother's home and does their laundry on Tuesdays.

Mo: Getting to cognize her family additional and seeing how they do things and what they akin and what their mundane looks akin has been a benefit.

Her family plant so hard. Her mom is the hardest employee on the ranch, and I would've never known that whenever I met her.

Her parents run a business, and her dad is continually not in the home — apart from to observe university football.

I've learned so much from him.

I think getting to cognize that part of her family was huge for me. That's what's different. If we lived anywhere we lived before, I likely would've never learned, or wanted to learn, that. So that was big for me.
