Google is evaluation a “Dive deeper” clasp in Discover that opens a abbreviated topic overview alongside links to connected coverage.
Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, announced the experiment on X Friday. The test starts alongside videos.
In the post’s example, another safety shows up as links inner that overview, under a summary.
What Google Is Testing
Stein wrote:
“Today we’re experimenting alongside a new way to create exploring a topic and discovering connected web satisfied easier in Discover.”
He afterward described what the clasp opens:
“By tapping “Dive deeper,” you’ll see a abbreviated topic overview alongside notable links to connected stories, community reactions & first reporting. We’ll test this cognition on videos to start, and test alongside multiple designs in the weeks onward (example below) as we iterate to study what plant best.”
The article doesn’t name the countries or languages in the test, or how many group volition see it.
What The Example Shows
The article includes an depiction of three phone screens, which it calls an example.
The archetypal display is a Discover nourish alongside a KCRA 3 climate video from YouTube. A abbreviated summary of a Northern California warmth motion appears under the video, alongside a tag study “Generated alongside AI, which can create mistakes.” The “Dive deeper” clasp is below that.
The second display has a Google logo at the top, afterward the identical video, a longer summary, and a row of origin cards. The archetypal cardstock is from kcra.com.
The third display is headed “Explore additional stories.” It groups abbreviated summaries under sub-topic headlines. Each one is followed by origin links and a abbreviated clarification of the connected coverage.
How It Fits With Discover’s Other AI Features
Google rolled out AI previews on trending topics in Discover in October 2025. Those previews develop to display additional information, alongside links to the web. I covered that launch whenever it went live in the U.S., South Korea, and India.
In the example, the summary is attached to one video card, and tapping the clasp opens an overview alongside additional links.
Search Console has a generative AI achievement study for Discover. Google says the study rolled out to all websites worldwide on Aug. 31, although the assistance leaf motionless says not all properties have access. As of Sept. 18, the help page stated the study counts impressions of links shown in “generative AI features in Discover.” It groups data by page, country, and date, and impressions are the lone metric the leaf describes. The leaf doesn’t catalog which features count, and it says experiments in Search Labs are excluded.
The article doesn’t say whether this test runs through Search Labs.
Why This Matters
Dive deeper gives group another item to tap on a Discover card. The cardstock in the example is a YouTube video, and the links to another safety are in the overview rearward the button.
Search Console’s Discover AI study has no breakdown by feature. Impressions from a Dive deeper overview, if they’re counted, would be blended in alongside another AI features.
Looking Ahead
Stein said Google volition test alongside multiple designs in the weeks ahead, so the clasp and the overview may change. The article gives no timeline for moving beyond videos.
