Disney workforce may have AI to appreciate for their next raise.

The Mouse House encouraged workforce to use AI onward of their annual reviews, including by suggesting that they ask chatbots to create their goals and ways they can enhance in the twelvemonth ahead.

This is the latest case of Disney's inner AI push and is an example of how big corporations, including tech giants akin Meta and Amazon, are using the AI tools they've invested in to shake up achievement reviews or rethink how to measure employees.

Companies are "trying desperately to discover value from the AI that they've paid a lot of prosperity for," stated Sarah Franklin, the CEO of HR application resolute Lattice.

Here are several examples of Disney's suggested AI prompts for annual reviews, according to an inner document viewed by Business Insider:

  • "Given my function [insert your role/title], assistance me create three ambitious, specific, and measurable goals that are in alignment alongside my team's general endeavor objectives [insert squad FY26 objectives]."
  • "Given my betterment areas from final twelvemonth [list betterment areas from FY25 end-of-year summary], compose me one goal for this twelvemonth that would assistance my development."
  • "Generate a goal that would assistance me enhance how I display [insert among the Disney People Leadership Expectations or Disney Values]."

The document told staffers they can use Disney-sanctioned AI tools, specified as Microsoft Copilot, as "a brainstorming partner" during preparing for their annual reviews. Chatbots "can motivate and support" during refining the spirit and wording of responses, the document said, although it discouraged workers from outsourcing their thinking for self-assessments entirely.

"While AI acts as an accelerator for idea generation, you remain liable and accountable for ensuring you and your chief are aligned on the correct priorities," the document said.

Disney has been leaning into AI by making an AI acceptance dashboard and allowing companies to create AI-generated ads for Disney+. CEO Josh D'Amaro is prioritizing tech and, in mid-September, hired the company's first-ever chief tech officer. He came from the AI video startup Character.AI.

D'Amaro told workforce in a latest memo that "technology in assistance of creativity" is one of his three priorities as CEO.

The pros and cons of AI-assisted reviews

AI is most productive during annual reviews whenever it helps workforce summarize idiosyncratic and squad achievements from the former year, stated Greg Summers, the CEO of recruiting resolute Orion Talent.

"Instead of trying to recall what you did and how to example that, it can provision you additional period to expend on the goals going forward," Summers said.

That fits in alongside several of Disney's messaging. A Disney application engineer stated their director encouraged them to use AI to "go through all our activity from the former year" so they could get their reviews done on time.

"Normally, it's a extremely manual procedure that can obtain a lot of time," this individual said.

Although AI can tap hours off the annual assessment procedure for the two workforce and managers, it additionally carries risks.

"When everyone's assessment is written by AI, everyone appears great, and it gets harder to inform genuine excellence from generic praise," stated Chris Dellarocas, a Boston University endeavor prof who's written concerning how generative AI is changing achievement reviews at work.

And if adequate workforce prepared for their annual reviews by following the prompts Disney suggested, managers could be inundated alongside generic, AI-generated responses.

"If you have an AI immediate create goals, you're going to have extremely akin goals throughout the team, and that's going to be a difficulty for the manager," stated Elijah Wee, a administration prof at the University of Washington.

As companies rotate to AI to create activity processes, akin annual reviews, additional efficient, Franklin stated they should justify they're "not outsourcing individual judgment."
