Sebastian Berhalter

Sebastian Matthew Berhalter is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for EFL Championship club Middlesbrough and the United States national team. Berhalter has played in the academies of Hammarby IF and Columbus Crew, as well as played college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Berhalter began his professional career with the Columbus Crew in 2020, but moved to Austin FC on loan for the 2021 season. After Austin FC declined their option to sign him, he returned to Columbus, but was traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps in early 2022. With the Vancouver Whitecaps, Berhalter eventually solidified himself as a regular player for the team, and was selected to the MLS Best XI in 2025 and the MLS All-Stars in 2025 and 2026. In July 2026, Berhalter joined EFL Championship club Middlesbrough. Berhalter did not make any appearances with the youth teams of the United States, but received his first call-up to the senior national team in 2025.
