Russia is rolling out additional trailer-mounted jammers designed to forestall Ukraine's assault drones from connecting to SpaceX's satellites, according to a top Ukrainian analyst.
Each jammer can provision item defence covering concerning 25 quadrate kilometers, or concerning 9.6 quadrate miles, stated Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, a Ukrainian presidential adviser on drones.
"Russia has covered nearly all crucial sites in Crimea alongside this category of EW and is increasingly deploying it alongside the forefront line," Beskrestnov wrote on Monday on his Telegram channel.
He stated the Kremlin was deploying the systems to oppose Ukraine's use of Starlink complete Russian-held territory. Ukraine's forces depend on the armed forces type of the SpaceX service, Starshield, for attack and deep-recon missions.
Starshield, as fine as onboard synthetic intelligence, has been crucial to assisting Ukraine authority mid-range assault drones and obtain intel from recon drones flying rearward Russian lines.
Beskrestnov advised Ukrainian drone pilots to appearance out for truck or trailer parking many as an "ideal place" for Russia to conceal its jammers.
"Of dozens of trucks, three to six may have the scheme installed. Also observe for small trailers attached to passenger cars," he wrote.
"The complex can equal run from generators," Beskrestnov added, saying that Ukrainian drone teams could appearance for polycarbonate panels, synthetic sheeting, or greenhouses that can obscure the jammer.
The scheme mentioned is the Volna Kupol Garant, which targets the moon alternatively of the drone or dirt terminal.
It uses dish antennas to beam mighty broadcast interference at idiosyncratic low-Earth-orbit satellites, aiming to create a local bubble in which moon links specified as Starlink battle or neglect to activity as they continue overhead, per ODIN, the US Army's community database.
Ukraine reported Russia's archetypal use of the scheme in Kharkiv in 2024, but it's been deployed in greater numbers since the commencement of this year, as Starshield has increasingly allowed Ukraine to strike deeper into Russian-held territory alongside drones.
In August, the Russian province media outlet TASS reported that serial manufacturing of the Volna Kupol Garant was underway to build additional countermeasures.
One jammer scheme typically consists of six trailers, all alongside two antennas.
Ukrainian forces attacking jamming sites earlier uploaded drone footage showing these trailers sitting neatly in two rows. But Beskrestnov stated on Monday that Russia had lately developed versions that use lone one antenna per trailer and was learning to dispersed them out and conceal them.
Still, analysts accept one jamming scheme can mark lone a sole low Earth orbit moon at a time. Open-source trackers evaluation that Starshield, which is owned and operated by the US, uses a constellation of at smallest 240 satellites.
