In the spring, we hit a beautiful untamed milestone: Oxide paid earnings tax. And not since of several different transaction or one-time event, but because our average operations (selling computers!) generated subject income after accounting for the expenses of components, manufacturing, salaries, and operating the remainder of the business. Of course, we all individually pay earnings tax every year; is it that amazing that a business is doing what we all do every spring?

Well, yes, it is: most startups don’t pay earnings tax since most startups aren’t profitable! Indeed, startups seek funding since they have costs long before they have revenue, let solitary income profit — let solitary income. This is by design: profitability is a lagging indicator of product/market fit (the adventure in project chief is investing lengthy before the endeavor has materialized!).

So this was a big milestone, and on top of that (and contrary to Russ Hanneman’s admonition!), we have a very ample command backlog. On the one hand, it’s really extraordinary to observe the endeavor create cash, but alongside petition far exceeding supply, significant prosperity is needed to safe inventory and fulfill these orders. This is among the particular dynamics of a quickly expanding hardware business: we must commit significant prosperity to components and manufacturing fine before the resulting systems attain customers.

Now, between our Series B, Series C, our existing debt facilities, and the prosperity generated by the endeavor itself, we felt assured we could fulfill our current backlog, but the complete numbers are large enough that we would have had to exercise genuine alert in accepting additional demand. We are, following all, children of the Dot Com bust — cautious by nature — and would not put the endeavor in a stance anywhere new provision disruptions, economic shocks, or another events exterior our authority could jeopardize it.

Fortunately, this is the issue that chief is delivered to solve. Our investors saw this too: they have been bonzer believers in Oxide from the beginning, and, thrilled by the burgeoning demand, they wanted to be certain that we were correctly positioned to completely take advantage of Oxide’s ample market.

As they have so many times for us complete the seven years of the company, Eclipse stood up to lead, and our $445M Series D quickly came together. Existing investors USIT, Riot Ventures, and Jane Street signed up for big pieces — and others on the cap array including Friends and Family Capital and Counterpart eagerly joined in.

We are deeply appreciative of the assistance of these existing investors, but we additionally wanted to add new investors to the company. While there was a lot of exterior interest (profitability being the supreme VC aphrodisiac!), there was one resolute that stood complete the rest: Atreides Management, which first got to cognize us nearly two years ago and has stayed near to the company ever since. We affection their analytical approach, their bravery in hard-tech investing — and their condemnation in Oxide.

Finally, we are thrilled to greeted AMD as a new strategic investor. AMD has long been a believer in Oxide: it was alongside their assistance that we were capable to achieve breakthroughs akin our own platform enablement software. And of course, we have been big believers in AMD: one of our archetypal big bets was on AMD EPYC. We think the alliance between AMD and Oxide is a lasting one, and it’s fitting to have that expressed in the cap table.

All of these investors are — like us — in it for the lengthy haul. When we raised our $200M Series C, we said that it was to entirely de-risk the business alongside regard to capital, to assure the two our longevity and our independence. This Series D builds on that assurance to authorize us to fulfill our significant backlog during continuing to obtain new demand, expand manufacturing capacity, and allocate for the enduring business that we have continually set out to build.

To our investors, partners, fans, long-time listeners, employees, and most of all customers: appreciate you. While this is but a milestone on the lengthy highway to what we cognize Oxide volition be, it is nonetheless an exhilarating one!
