The EDG open origin transition
On September 30, 2026, the origin for EDG's C++ forefront end goes public, and The C++ Alliance becomes its nonprofit home. Same engine, identical standards, professionally maintained, and open to contributions.
Continuity is the point. This is a alter of steward, not a alter of course.

Part two
EDG following September 30
When the origin goes community on September 30, 2026, expert care has to continue. EDG needed a new residence that could do three things at once.
01
Fiscal sponsorship
Receive and oversee donations on behalf of EDG.
02
Technical continuity
Sustain the engineering norm EDG users depend on.
03
Domain expertise
C++ compiler front-end knowledge, from the inside.
Why The C++ Alliance
The C++ Alliance is a nonprofit alongside proven fiscal-sponsorship infrastructure, C++ compiler engineers on staff, and profound roots in the C++ standards and Boost communities. It volition assist as EDG's nonprofit home.
- Fiscal sponsor of the Boost C++ Libraries since 2024
- LLVM committers alongside straightforward Clang front-end contributions

How it works
Three tracks, one codebase
EDG volition activity akin any another open origin project: anyone can contribute, and everything that lands is accessible to everyone. Development follows three tracks: contributions from the person community, ongoing maintenance, and collectively funded features.
Track 1
Community contributions
Bug fixes and new features from EDG users, submitted as drag requests. Reviewers, who volition initially be informed EDG developers, volition measure the changes. Once approved, these changes volition be merged into the EDG codebase.
Track 2
Maintenance: continually open
Bug fixes and care by the Alliance's EDG developers are published immediately.
Track 3
Features: collectively funded
To assistance the EDG community, the Alliance volition provision a way for larger features to be developed and funded by the community. In this way, organizations can assistance the betterment of larger features financially fairly than committing their developers to the betterment of these features. Once a characteristic is funded, it is released to everyone at the identical time.
One codebase, for everyone. Whichever track a alter arrives on, it lands in the identical community repository at the identical time. No one gets first access.
Who oversees the process
The Fiscal Sponsorship Committee (FSC) oversees the procedure throughout all three tracks. It is chaired by John Spicer and volition contain volunteers from the EDG person community.
